2. Fitment & Selection

Q4. How do I know which kit fits my cylinder?

The fastest way to get the right kit is to provide one of the following:

  1. Machine brand + model + cylinder position (e.g., CAT 320 boom cylinder), or
  1. Cylinder model / serial number (stamped on the barrel or gland), or
  1. Key measurements — see Q5 below.

When in doubt, send us a photo of the old seals and the cylinder nameplate; we will confirm the match before shipping.

Q5. How do I measure my cylinder if I don't have a model number?

If you cannot find a part number, take these three measurements with a caliper:

  1. Bore diameter— the inner diameter of the cylinder barrel (where the piston travels).
  1. Rod diameter— the diameter of the piston rod.
  1. Stroke — the distance the rod travels, if you want to confirm the model.

Also note the profile of the old seals (U-cup, V-pack, wiper style, etc.). Photos of the old seal kit are a huge help. All measurements in millimeters are preferred.

Q6. Are these kits compatible with OEM parts?

Yes. Our kits are dimensionally and materially equivalent to OEM seals and are designed as direct, drop-in replacements. They are not branded OEM parts, but they meet or exceed OEM performance standards — many workshops use them as their standard rebuild parts.

Q7. What if I'm not sure between two sizes?

No problem. Contact us with your machine details and photos, and we will help you confirm the exact kit before shipping. It is better to ask first than to receive the wrong kit.

Q8. What materials are the seals made of?

We use position-matched premium materials:

  • PU (Polyurethane) — for rod seals and wiper rings: outstanding wear resistance and extrusion resistance.
  • NBR (Nitrile Rubber) — for O-rings and general static seals: excellent oil resistance.
  • HNBR (Hydrogenated Nitrile) — for high-temperature applications.
  • PTFE (Polytetrafluoroethylene) — for low-friction, high-performance sealing elements.
  • Nylon / POM — for wear and guide rings.

Each material is selected for the specific sealing function it performs, so you get the right material in the right position.

Q9. What temperature and pressure can they handle?

Typical working range for standard kits:

  • Temperature: -30 °C to +100 °C (-22 °F to +212 °F); HNBR elements extend the high end.
  • Working pressure: up to 250 bar (3,600 psi), with higher ratings available for heavy-duty configurations.

Exact ratings depend on the cylinder size and configuration — check the spec sheet for your specific kit.

Q10. Are the seals resistant to hydraulic oil?

Yes. All seals are formulated for mineral hydraulic oils and are compatible with most common hydraulic fluids. If you use a special fluid (e.g., biodegradable or phosphate ester), let us know so we can recommend the right material.


4. Installation

Q11. Can I install the repair kit myself?

Yes, if you have basic mechanical skills and standard workshop tools. Replacing the seals requires disassembling the cylinder, so plan for the cylinder to be out of service for a few hours. If you are not comfortable with cylinder disassembly, we recommend having a qualified mechanic or hydraulic repair shop do the job — the seals are only as good as the installation.

Q12. What tools do I need?

  • Standard hand tools: wrenches, socket set, spanners
  • Seal installation tools (plastic or brass pry/protector tools)
  • Fine emery cloth or honing stone to deburr the gland and rod
  • Clean hydraulic oil for lubrication
  • A clean workbench

No special press is required for standard kits.

Q13. Do I need to remove the cylinder from the machine?

Yes. A complete seal rebuild requires removing the cylinder from the machine and disassembling it (rod, gland, piston). This is normal and is the only way to replace all seals properly. While it is open, it is a good opportunity to inspect the rod and barrel for scoring or wear.

Q14. Any installation tips to avoid premature failure?

Yes — follow these five rules:

  1. Clean everything first — wash the rod, gland, and work area; one grain of sand can kill a new seal.
  1. Deburr sharp edges — smooth any burrs or sharp threads with emery cloth before passing seals over them.
  1. Lubricate with clean hydraulic oil — never install dry.
  1. Use proper installation tools — avoid screwdrivers and sharp objects that nick the sealing lip.
  1. Protect the rod — cover or tape the rod threads when sliding seals on.

5. Performance & Troubleshooting

Q15. What usually causes cylinder seal failure?

The most common causes are:

  • Contamination — dirt, sand, or water entering the system (the #1 killer of seals)
  • Scored or damaged rod — rough rod surface tears the rod seal
  • Overheating — high oil temperature hardens or melts the seal material
  • Misalignment / side loading — puts uneven pressure on the seals
  • Improper installation — nicked lips or dry assembly
  • Natural aging — rubber hardens and loses elasticity over time

Replacing the seals is often the cure, but if the rod or barrel is damaged, repair the metal parts first or the new seals will fail quickly.

Q16. My cylinder is leaking — will this kit fix it?

Most likely yes, but let's distinguish the two leak types:

  • External leak (oil visible on the rod or around the gland) → caused by a worn rod seal or wiper ring → included in the kit and will fix it.
  • Internal leak (cylinder drifts down or drops under load) → caused by a worn piston seal → also included in the kit.

If the cylinder creeps or lacks power after seal replacement, the cause may be in the valve or pump rather than the cylinder.

Q17. How long do the seals last?

Service life depends on operating conditions. Under normal, clean operation, a quality rebuild typically delivers 1,500 – 5,000 working hours. Harsh environments (dust, heat, high pressure cycles) shorten this, while well-maintained machines can go much longer. Regular oil changes and clean work conditions are the best way to extend seal life.


6. After-Sales & Guarantee

Q18. What is the shelf life, and how should I store spare kits?

Stored correctly, spare kits last 5+ years. Keep them:

  • In a cool, dry, dark place
  • Away from direct sunlight, ozone sources (motors), solvents, and chemicals
  • Lying flat (do not hang seals, which can distort them)
  • In the original sealed packaging until use

Q19. What if I receive the wrong kit or a missing part?

Contact us within 7 days of delivery with your order number and photos. If we sent the wrong kit or a part is missing, we will reship the correct item or refund you — free of charge, and you do not need to return the wrong item (for wrong-shipment cases, please contact us first for instructions).

Q20. What warranty do you offer?

We provide a 12-month quality warranty against manufacturing defects. If a seal fails due to a material or workmanship defect within the warranty period, we will replace it free of charge. Warranty does not cover damage caused by improper installation, contamination, or misuse.
